High risk breast cancer focus of clinical forum

The third LCA breast cancer clinical forum on 24 September 2013, focused on high risk breast cancer. Speakers presented on a wide range of issues, including:

  • Breast cancer genetic testing
  • Surveillance and risk
  • Chemoprevention of women at risk of breast cancer
  • Breast chemoprevention: managing non-breast cancer outcomes
  • Pathology of women at increased risk of breast cancer

A panel discussion led to lively debate on the implementation of the new NICE guidelines on family history and the use of chemoprevention for women at high risk. Considerable discussion took place on the need to clarify the pathway for high risk patients in light of the changes to the screening services.

The presentations from the event are available here.

The next clinical forum on Tuesday 3 December, will focus on systemic treatments for breast cancer.
